Good evening, everyone.
Today, we gather to celebrate a milestone a moment that marks not just the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a new journey for our graduates. Some of these students have been with us since TK, others joined us later, but all have walked a path filled with growth, challenges, and triumphs.
As I made my rounds through the community earlier today, I saw some of these very graduates walking to their respective schools alone. I stopped to talk with them. Many told me that no one could come to their graduation. Some had parents working long hours at companies, selling goods on the street, doing what they must to keep their families afloat. Others stayed home because of fear fear of immigration issues, fear of being seen, fear of being left behind. Some were too ill to attend. And so, they are celebrating this moment by themselves.
And yet, they showed up. They walked into this day with their heads held high, carrying the quiet strength of resilience.
To those students, I want to say: you are not alone. I gave you words of encouragement, but more importantly, I reminded you that your community sees you, supports you, and celebrates you. You have achieved something powerful, and no matter what path you choose next whether you enter the workforce, go to college, care for family, or blaze your own trail you matter. You have the power to make a difference, to lift others up, and to create a future where no one has to walk alone.
These are the stories we don’t hear enough. We assume that everyone has someone cheering them on, that everyone’s journey looks the same. But the truth is we don’t live in a perfect world. Many live in silence. Many struggle in ways we may never know. And that’s why today is more than a ceremony it’s a call to awareness, a moment of truth.
If there is anything I ask you to take away from today, it’s this:
We all have needs.
The need to be wanted.
To feel fulfilled.
To be seen, heard, appreciated.
To belong.
To know we are worthy of contributing to this life.
So today, take a pause. In your heart, in your spirit, in your thoughts send love to every student. To those you know. To those you don’t. To those who celebrate loudly and those who celebrate in silence.
Let us carry forward not just diplomas, but compassion. Let us be the kind of community that doesn’t just witness success, but nurtures it quietly, consistently, and for all.
Congratulations, graduates. You’ve made it. And your journey is just beginning.
Thank you.
