Every week I find myself doing the same thing making calls, sending messages, knocking on doors, and reaching out to people. Claire Martinet was a dedicated Spanish teacher at Phineas Banning High School, where she taught in the Banning High School CP Magnet Program. Claire became an active member of A Needy Wilmington, participating in events such as Feeding the Needy on Thanksgiving and the Adopt a Pilot Program. She believed deeply in the dignity of every per

Life gives each of us two powerful moments: the day we are born, and the day we begin to understand why we are here. Purpose doesn’t always arrive all at once it grows through service, struggle, and connection with others. When we choose to use our time, talents, and compassion to uplift our community, our “why” becomes clearer. In that discovery, life moves beyond survival and becomes meaningful, rooted in love, responsibility, and hope for something greater than ourselves.

Unfair and unrealistic that’s what it feels like when people, companies, and organizations with the power to help keep giving to the same few over and over again, month after month, year after year. Meanwhile, new or smaller groups working hard in the same communities get overlooked. They don’t get a chance to show what they can do, to share what they’ve built, or to help the same families we all claim to care about. I’ve been in this public space long enough to see how too
